The year 2025 is fast approaching and the opening of several football stadiums is imminent. For many fans, these stadiums are more than just a place to watch football. For them, it is a temple where they can forget all their problems for a few hours. What should we expect in the new year?
Stade d’Everton
Capacity: 52,888 seats – Everton
While Liverpoolthe city's most famous club, has chosen to renovate the legendary Anfield stadium, the leaders ofEverton opted for the construction of a new arena.
For the first time in their history, which dates back to 1892, the Toffees will play their home matches at a stadium other than Goodison Park. It is therefore not surprising that this stadium has hosted more than Premier League than any other stadium in England to date.
Fans ofEverton will now have to get used to a different address: the new arena is located in the old trading port called Bramley-Moore Dock, about 3 km from Goodison Park. As for capacity, official confirmation is still awaited, but it is expected to be in excess of 52,000 spectators, which would make the new arena the eighth largest in England. However, it should be added that a possible increase in capacity to 62,000 spectators is still under study.
The finishing works on the stadium are currently underway and the playersEverton are expected to play their first matches in August in preparation for the new season. In addition to club matches, the stadium is expected to host matches of theEuro 2028.
Camp Nou
Capacity: 62,000 (105,000 at the end of the work) – Barcelona
The iconic Camp Nou, home of FC Barcelonais currently undergoing a transformation. Although the return of Blaugranas at home has been planned for the end of the year, it is already certain that the initial date will not be respected. However, the club hopes to be able to play the first matches in the spring.
But for this to be possible, Lamine Yamal & co. will return to the stadium during the work, with a capacity of 62,000 spectators. The first two floors will be available, while work on the third will continue. Upon completion, scheduled for 2026, Camp Nou will have a capacity of 105,000 spectators.
Ankara Stadium
Capacity: 50,000 spectators – Ankaragücü
A new facility is slowly taking shape in Ankara, Turkey, where a stadium with a capacity of 50,000 spectators is being built. It will mainly be used by the local club Ankaragucu as well as by the national team.
The new arena will have stands on two levels and the auditorium will be covered by a unique round dome, the shell of which will be largely glazed and allow plenty of light.
This distinctive dome will be supported by four enormous arched trusses, two of which will be 285 meters long and will be among the largest ever used in stadiums around the world.
The Charterhouse
Capacity: 71,374 people – Sevilla FC and Betis
A very interesting situation has arisen in Seville, the city where two major clubs are based: Betis and the Sevilla FC. The stadium, inaugurated in May 1999 to host the World Athletics Championships, will become a temporary facility for the two clubs, which await the renovation of their existing venues. THE Betis will settle there between 2025 and 2026, while the Sevilla FC will settle there between 2026 and 2028.
As it was primarily a venue for athletics competitions, several changes will have to be made. In the first phase of the renovation, the athletics oval will be removed and the field will be moved closer to spectators, lowering it by more than five meters. At the same time, the capacity of the stadium will increase from 57,000 to 71,000 seats, including 75,000 for concerts. This improvement alone will cost at least $15 million.
The second part of the renovation, which will cost around €100 million, will include a complete upgrade of facilities, improved access and façade. The arena will become the third largest in Spain (after Camp Nou and Santiago Bernabéu) after the capacity increase and will also be one of the venues of the 2030 World Cupwhich will be organized not only by Spain, but also by Portugal and Morocco.
Moulay Abdellah Stadium
Capacity: 68,700 places – FAR Rabat
For the 2030 World Cupbut also for the African Cup of Nations in 2025Morocco is not left out and has several stages in the pipeline. In Rabat, the country's capital, a new stadium is being built to replace the Stade Moulay Abdellah.
With the demolition of the old stadium in 2023, construction of the new arena has begun. With a capacity of almost 70,000 spectators, it is expected to be completed in 2025. Interestingly, an athletics stadium with a capacity of around 25,000 is also to be built next to the football stadium , which will host, for example, the Diamond League.
Besides the national team, the new stadium will also be used by the FATHER Discountone of the most successful football clubs in Morocco.
