What if you could follow Santa Claus' journey live during his big gift distribution tour? It's now possible thanks to two websites that allow you to locate your sleigh and experience the magic of Christmas like never before. Embark on a magical journey into the heart of Christmas night!
NORAD and Google chasing the sled
The United States and Canadian Military Aviation Security Command (NORAD) has been tracking Santa Claus for decades. On its dedicated website, you can watch in 3D the sleigh pulled by its nine brave reindeer fly across the globe, delivering thousands of gifts at a breakneck pace.
The giant Google also offers its own tracker, the Google Santa Trackerwhich allows you to follow Santa Claus minute by minute. Accessible on computer, tablet and smartphone, this site offers an interactive and fun experience for young and old.
More than a billion gifts already delivered
According to NORAD, as of 6 p.m. French time, Santa Claus had already distributed more than 1.2 billion presents to sleeping children, at a dizzying rate of 100,000 presents per second! His sleigh then flew over the Great Wall of China, after having enchanted millions of cherubs in New Zealand, Japan, South Korea and India.
Santa won't stop if the kids are awake. So my message is this: go to bed before 9:00 p.m. to receive gifts!
General Gregory Guillot, Commander of NORAD
A tradition born during the Cold War
NORAD's tracking of Santa Claus dates back to 1955, following an error in an advertisement inviting people to call the bearded man. The number indicated was in fact that of the NORAD hotline during the Cold War. The officer on duty, initially surprised, played along and launched this tradition that has been perpetuated for 69 years.
No interference expected with drones
Despite recent concerns related to drone overflights, the general of the American Air Force wants to be reassuring: “I don’t anticipate any difficulties with these drones for Santa this year”. Enough to reassure children (and parents) that this magical night will go smoothly.
A trip to enjoy as a family
Following Santa's tour live is the ideal opportunity to share a moment of magic and wonder with your family. Children love seeing the sleigh travel through different countries and imagining what is happening in homes around the world. It's also an excellent way to introduce them to geography in a fun way.
