A Russian strike killed at least one person in Kryvyi Rig, the hometown of Volodymyr Zelensky located about 80 kilometers from the front. 14 injured are to be deplored.

At least one person was killed and 14 were injured this Tuesday, December 24 in a Russian strike on Kryvyi Rig, the hometown of President Volodymyr Zelensky located in central Ukraine, local authorities announced.

According to the head of the military administration of Kryvyi Rig, Oleksandr Vilkul, this missile strike hit a residential building in this town which had 600,000 inhabitants before the war.

“The incessant attacks of the Russians”

“While the rest of the world celebrates Christmas, Ukrainians continue to suffer incessant attacks from the Russians,” regretted the Ukrainian human rights commissioner, Dmytro Loubinets, on Telegram.

“The number of injured rose to 14, including a child. One person died,” said the national police. Kryvyi Rig has been a frequent target of Russian air attacks since the start of the 2022 invasion. The town is about 80 kilometers from the front line.

As the open conflict between Russia and Ukraine approaches its third anniversary, the situation on the front is almost frozen, with the Russians grabbing meager portions of territory in eastern Ukraine.

For its part, South Korea mentioned this Monday the figure of “around 1,100” North Korean soldiers killed or wounded in combat. Several thousand North Korean troops have been sent to Russia in recent weeks to support the Russian army, particularly in the Russian region of Kursk. Ukraine launched a surprise offensive in the Kursk region of Russia. She still controls a small part of this territory.
