Champagne 25% more expensive
Even if this is only a slight increase of 2.2% in the total price of the basket, we must look at the evolution over recent years. According to Emilie Meyer, director of studies at the Circana Institute. “The problem is that products really remain much more expensive than before this episode of inflation. And so we have products which, over three years, have increased a lot. This is the case of champagne which is 25 % more expensive today than at Christmas 2021. Ice cream 17% more expensive.
However, some products still see their prices drop. This is the case for foie gras and poultry. A 5% drop on the shelves thanks to vaccination against avian flu, which made it possible to increase supply and reduce costs. In total, the French planned to spend €123 per meal for Christmas and New Year's Eve.
