The Christmas mass will be broadcast this Tuesday live from the Notre-Dame du Rosaire church on Réunion La 1ère. This Nativity event will be chaired by Bishop Pascal Chane-Teng and concelebrated by priests Gildas Bobongaud-Bossounanga and Bernardin Kamwanga-Empel.
The Christmas mass is broadcast this Tuesday, December 24 live from Moufia in Saint-Denis from 8 p.m. It is chaired by Monsignor Pascal Chane-Teng and concelebrated by priests Gildas Bobongaud-Bossounanga and Bernardin Kamwanga-Empel. Dozens of faithful are expected in this beautiful church in the capital which has also marked the history of the local diocese.
Discussions around the Notre-Dame du Rosaire church date back to 1966. At that time, the Moufia district was a field of cane and brown pepper trees, and the rare families who lived there had to go down to Sainte-Clotilde to go and pray. The first Christmas mass celebrated at Moufia was in 1967. A large number of believers were able to attend. It was Father Philipona, parish priest of Sainte-Clotilde, helped by the entire parish, who managed to obtain land and the necessary materials to start construction. According to Enis Rockel, author of “A brief history of the diocese of Reunion“, the work was completed in 1969 and the place of worship was blessed by Monseigneur de Langavant.
The building was then transformed and enlarged by Father Russell Torpos. Its official inauguration in its current form dates back to June 24, 1989.
Patrick Hoarau and the technical teams from Réunion La 1ère are ensuring the realization of this mass on December 24 which will begin with songs. The year 2025 was declared by Pope Francis as a jubilee year of “Pilgrims of Hope”.
