The images are impressive. A major fire struck a Haussmann building located on rue de la Pépinière this Tuesday morning, in the immediate vicinity of Saint-Lazare train stationin the 8th arrondissement of .

From 9 a.m., thick black smoke rose from the top floors of the building, attracting the attention of many passers-by and causing a massive mobilization of emergency services.

According to the Paris Fire Brigade (BSPP), the fire broke out in an empty apartment, currently under construction, located on the top floor of the building.

The flames quickly spread throughout the roof.mobilizing nearly 150 firefighters to try to contain the disaster. “Firefighters have been on site for more than half an hour and are still battling the flames”indicated the BSPP in a press release late in the morning.

A slight injury

A security perimeter was quickly established, and residents of the lower floors as well as businesses located on the ground floor were evacuated as a precautionary measure. However, firefighters recorded one minor injury.

Images relayed on social networks show the extent of the disaster: a roof partly ravaged by flames, while a firefighter climbs a long ladder erected against the facade. Many Internet users also shared videos of the intervention, highlighting the importance of the event and the efforts of the emergency services.

The origin of the fire remains undetermined at this time. An investigation should be opened to determine the exact causes of the fire.

For the immediate future, the authorities are calling for people to avoid the area so as not to hinder the work of the emergency services.
