The soldiers carry out the arrest. In the fight, insults in Portuguese fly out. The thirty-year-old was presented on Monday before the magistrates under the regime of immediate appearance. “I’m the one being accused because she called first,” denounces the defendant. That evening, he threatened to kill his partner. According to him, it was justified: “She smoked with the baby in her arms.”
A suicide attempt that changes everything
Since his technical unemployment in 2023, the defendant's situation has irreparably deteriorated. Tensions arose within the couple. In the spring, he tried to end his life. “It was she who tried,” he slips when mentioning this episode. His lawyer, Me Fournier, specifies: “He has another reality, he is undergoing heavy treatment, which has disconnected him from his family.” His children, the oldest, testified: “Before, he played with us, he was nice. Since then, he always argues with mom, he scares us with his black eyes.”
Agitated at the bar, he interrupts the magistrates and disputes the facts. An attitude which worries the public prosecutor, who requested 24 months in prison, 14 of which with a probationary suspension and a committal warrant: “I hear him say that he has done nothing, ever. His children are scared. It’s very worrying.” On the defense side, Me Fournier pleads: “It's a sad case, with a life that has turned upside down. They were to go on vacation together in the days to come. I don't think that incarceration is the solution. L “contempt is not constituted, the insults do not infringe on dignity.” However, the court sentenced him to 24 months in prison, 15 of which were suspended on probation and a committal warrant.
