the essential
An update on the files which have progressed and those still pending, one year after the visit of the Minister of Health to the Decazeville hospital.

On December 21, 2023, Minister of Health Agnès Firmin Le Bodo visited the Decazeville hospital. “The will of the State is to rebuild and maintain this hospital,” she guaranteed, when a mammograph was installed.

One year later, Vincent Prévoteau assures us: “The Decazeville hospital continues to evolve and strengthen its healthcare offering in the region with continued strong support from the Regional Health Agency and the State.”

Operational since January 17, the mammograph, “an essential activity for the region”, has carried out more than 2,260 mammograms to date. “Our radiology activity has increased by 30%. We have been fortunate to have set up a shared medical imaging platform with radiologists present in the region and present in Decazeville, radiologists of very high competence; we have a development of external consultations”.

Reconstruction, MRI, medical-care project…

Vincent Prévoteau also highlights “the medical-care project approved before the summer. We have a road map, always in this approach of strengthening the care offer in order to meet the needs of the population, in connection, in particular with the GHT hospitals ( and Villefranche), allowing for patient pathways offering the population of Decazeville, and this is essential, the same quality and safety of care as elsewhere. hospital labeling proximity with an emergency service and the request for a possibility of deviating from local hospitals and of having outpatient surgery which can be developed on the establishment”.

Strong expectations

However, one year after the minister's visit, expectations still remain very high.

Laurent Alexandre, LFI deputy for the 2nd constituency: “There is in-depth, long-term work. I regularly call on the ministry and the services, including the ARS, about reconstruction and emergencies with the need for two permanent medical lines. Things are progressing. hospital is vital for a territory. This encourages doctors to set up more easily. I will also not give up on the need to develop various services, including surgery.

Maurice Andrieu, president of the hospital supervisory board: “We have written guarantees from the director of the ARS to maintain emergencies and an outpatient surgery service; but there is a shortage of anesthesiologists. We must maintain a functional surgical unit for the day when there will be an arrival of doctors in large numbers with the expansion of the numerus clausus.”

Pascal Mazet, PCF regional advisor and hospital employee: “I will be satisfied the day the reconstruction work begins. There are delays and millions at stake, but it seems a long time for the population and the staff.”

Stéphanie Ruiz, CGT staff delegate: “Population and staff find the time very long. If we want to be attractive at the medical and staff level we need a hospital which is modernizing, which is being rebuilt, it is essential. We have enormous expectations for the reconstruction ( we know that there will be a differential between compensation and the cost; the ARS and the State will have to help us) and emergencies (with two medical lines during the day and one at night). ambitious and we expect the architectural project to be put in place.”

EMERGENCIES

Furthermore, the announced arrival of the MRI could take place at the end of 2025 or even 2026.
2025 should also see the start of reconstruction work on the wing of the hospital destroyed by a fire at the end of May 2022: “The building permit must be submitted next February,” announces Vincent Prévoteau.

Concerning emergencies, Vincent Prévoteau salutes “the extremely strong commitment of Dr Becker. The emergency room has never closed. A SMUR line is maintained. There is a whole, very structured territorial organization and a strong commitment from practitioners so that Decazeville’s emergencies can function.”

Franck Becker, president of the CME of Decazeville and head of the emergency department adds: “As up to now, emergency reception for the holidays will be provided at the Decazeville hospital; the SMUR will always be present in Decazeville for holidays We remind you that the call to 15 is reserved for emergencies; otherwise you can reach a doctor on call at 116 117”.

He also welcomes the links forged since September 2022 between general practitioners and hospital practitioners regarding the permanence of care; as well as the collaboration with Dr Danièle Kaya – Vaur for the direct admission of patients to the medical department downstream of the emergency room.
