INSEE has just revealed the latest figures for census of the population. First indicator: population growth in Seine-et-Marne remains one of the largest in Ile-de-Francebehind Seine-Saint-Denis and Val-d'Oise.
On January 1, 2025, Seine-et-Marne will count 1 452 399 habitantsmaking our department the 12th nationally, in terms of population.
While certain towns continue to benefit, year after year, from strong growth, including Melun (+1,318 inhabitants), Meaux (+1,043 inhabitants) or even Champs-sur-Marne (+966 inhabitants), Montévrain (+913 inhabitants), others see their neighborhoods empty.
This is particularly the case in Mée-sur-Seine which lost 680 inhabitants this year, or even Montereau-Fault-Yonne whose figures show -419 inhabitants. More surprising, the town of Bussy-Saint-Georges, although classified as an Operation of National Interest, would have lost 237 Buxangeorgians this year.
Meaux is still the most populated city in Seine-et-Marne
No change at the top of the ranking of the most populated cities. As for a very long time now, the first two places in the ranking are played out between Meaux and Chelles, which respectively count 56,659 and 54,372 inhabitants.
Melun, the prefecture city, finishes this podium with 43 685 habitants.
The data provided by INSEE also perfectly illustrate the diversity of this large department. If the largest town in Seine-et-Marne has more than 56,000 inhabitants, conversely, there are very small villages. And the smallest of them only has… 30 inhabitants. It is about Montenilsin the far east of Seine-et-Marne.
