The former goalkeeper and captain of the Girondins de Bordeaux,
Benoit Costilin Sud Ouest, spoke about the descent of the Club to the Scapular in National 2.
“Contrary to what some may imagine, I have a lot of affection for the Girondins […] It's a disaster. Afterwards, I wasn't surprised. I have a double feeling: anger and sadness for everyone affected. It does terrible damage, just like our descent did. But I want to believe, I am even certain, that this club will return to its rightful place.”
And precisely, in this descent into hell the goalkeeper is still at the base, since it is his team which descended sportingly to Ligue 2, finishing last in Ligue 1, with the worst defense, and the greatest number of goals conceded.
“From the moment we go down to L2, we all have our share of responsibility. We saw the club going into a tailspin. With Jimmy Briand, Laurent Koscielny, Paul Baysse, Nicolas de Préville, the previous season, despite the difficulties, we were convinced that we were going to maintain ourselves because we had good players. But we said: watch out for next year, it doesn't just happen to others. There was no stability, it was a constant mess. On the descent, yes we are all responsible, we must assume it. But the day-to-day management of the club, the accounts, that’s not up to us.”
