Macaulay Culkin earned $18 million more thanks to a clause in his Mom, I Missed the Plane contract

One of the stars of the first two films in the Mom, I Missed the Plane series has explained how Macaulay Culkin managed to earn an extra $18 million.

The first two films in the Mom, I Missed the Plane franchise achieved immense success with audiences.

While the original film earned $476.7 million at the box office, experts estimate that amount would be worth $1.15 billion today, taking into account inflation.

The first two chapters of Mom, I Missed the Plane starred Macaulay Culkin, who was only 10 years old at the time of the first film.

The young actor shared the bill with Daniel Stern and Joe Pesci, who played the duo of useless criminals, the Wet Bandits Marv and Harry.

Daniel Stern spoke about this adventure in the book Home and Alone.

Indeed, Daniel Stern explained that he had initially refused to play in the second film of the series, because he was paid less than the other stars of the film. The actor finally managed to negotiate a better contract.

Daniel Stern also revealed how much Macaulay Culkin earned from the first two films.

According to what Daniel Stern indicated, Macaulay Culkin was paid $110,000 for the original film, then $3.93 million for the sequel which takes place in New York.

We are still talking about a very interesting amount for a child, but as Daniel Stern pointed out, Macaulay Culkin had negotiated a special clause which ensured that he would receive 5% of the box office receipts for Mom j I missed plane 2.

Even though the second chapter did not have the same success as the original film, Mom, I Missed the Plane 2 earned $359 million at the box office.

In other words, this box office result allowed Macaulay Culkin to get his hands on an additional $17.95 million.

Once again, accounting for inflation, that would be about $39 million today.
