After all the fuss, “sales volume was 0″… Why the hell is “this car” an SUV that ended up being a total failure?

Domestic sales volume is “0 units”?

jeep The purely electric Avenger SUV has attracted the attention of the industry as it has become a vehicle with no demand in Korea. This happened two months after its launch, creating a troubling situation for Stellantis Korea, which manages the Jeep brand. According to statistics from the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association on the 17th, the sales volume of Avenger, launched in Korea last September, was 9 units in November, and no units were sold.

It all started with 16 units sold in the launch month, but by October, only 10 units were sold, destroying its pride. The results were 3 degrees different from the initial predictions of Stellantis Korea, which was confident of selling the first 100 units. The industry had predicted that Stellantis Korea would use marketing means such as discounts, but the Avenger was not chosen by any domestic consumers in November. Cumulative domestic sales of the Avenger from September to November were only 180 units. Most of them are known to be intended for media test drives or dealership test drives. So it seems there are very few real Avenger owners in Korea.

Range is cited as the reason for the Avenger's poor sales. The maximum range of the Avenger equipped with a 54 kWh nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) battery manufactured by the Chinese company CATL is 295 km combined according to the Ministry of the Environment, which is less than the combined autonomy of the equipped Hyundai Casper Electric 49-inch. with a 15 kWh NCM battery (318 km) according to the Ministry of the Environment The distance was recorded. In particular, as the starting price excluding subsidies of the EV500, which can travel a range of 3 km, was set at 4.415 million won (based on a long range), it was natural that the domestic presence of the Avenger, which starts at 5.200 million won, has been weakened.

The problem is that November sales for the entire Jeep brand are also slow. There is not a single model whose sales volume exceeds three figures. At least the Grand Cherokee 11xe, a plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV), saved face by recording sales of 4 units. Jeep brand sales in November this year were only 76 units, down 11% year-on-year, and the cumulative sales from January to November were only 60.0,168 units, in decrease of 1%.

Not just the jeep head down
All affiliated brands receive “praise”

Besides Jeep, sales of Peugeot and Maserati, managed by Stellantis Korea, were also very sluggish. Peugeot's total sales in November were only 11 units, with 65 e-2008 electric vehicles sold and 5 e-208 electric vehicles sold. Maserati Korea, which was launched under Stellantis Korea last July, received a dismal record in the domestic market in November, selling only 1 units.

Meanwhile, small SUVs like the Avenger are reasonably sized and have high ground clearance, so driving isn't a burden. This is a popular car model for many people because it has many advantages such as a wide field of vision and a variety of functional interior spaces. For this reason, manufacturers offer several ranges of compact SUVs. This also applies to Jeep.

Good comfort and driving functionality
Extreme profitability is a problem

Usually, domestic compact SUVs do not focus on driving functions.
Instead, the focus is often on convenience when driving around town and in everyday life. However, the Jeep Avenger seems to have put more effort into driving. Jeep explains that in addition to the various driving functions mentioned above, the 10.5 m turning radius makes it easier to drive in narrow alleys and city streets.

The high tilt angle of 20 degrees provides excellent obstacle avoidance capability. With an approach angle of 20 degrees and a departure angle of 32 degrees, the widest in its class, driving on slopes is no problem. It also comes equipped with a host of driver assistance features for a compact SUV, such as adaptive cruise control, various alert systems and sensors. Various functions and options significantly increase driver comfort. Of course, driving is important to domestic consumers, but Jeep seems not to have realized that the economic feasibility of a vehicle, such as price and mileage, is also very important. This was proven by the sales figures.
