The co-owners of Pharmaprix de Baie-Comeau, Emy-Lee Otis and William Robillard-Neveu, inaugurated a new care clinic within their pharmacy on December 19, offering a wider range of services to the population.
“Pharmaprix had launched a pilot project with five pharmacies, and we hoped that this would develop further,” explains Emy-Lee Otis. After expressing interest, the duo received approval this summer to join the new wave of 20 pharmacy clinics in Quebec.
This marks a turning point for local care in Baie-Comeau.
“The goal of this project is really the service to the population which will be easier for us and more qualitative. Rather than being on the corner of the counter where we will go a little quickly so as not to necessarily want to say too much in the sense of confidentiality,” underlines Ms. Otis, happy to be able to receive her future clients in conducive treatment rooms. to confidentiality and to preserve privacy.
Services for everyone
The clinic is aimed at both those who have a doctor and those who do not.
“We can manage chronic illnesses such as diabetes or high blood pressure, optimize existing treatments and offer medical follow-ups. We do not make new diagnoses, but we support patients in managing their treatments,” explains William Robillard-Neveu.
In addition, the clinic offers health consultations, vaccination services and travel-related care. It also responds to urgent needs. “If someone cannot see their doctor for six months, we can offer an intermediate solution,” adds the pharmacist-owner.
Efficient and accessible operation
Appointments are made via the Clic Santé platform or directly at the pharmacy. The clinic offers approximately 40 hours of time slots per week. “If a beach is free, it is even possible to be seen the same day or the next day,” says Mr. Robillard-Neveu.
An electronic pre-questionnaire system makes it possible to maximize the efficiency of consultations.
“Patients can complete a form before their appointment, which helps us better prepare for the meeting and optimize the time spent with them,” he explains.
The clinic can also order blood tests to monitor existing illnesses. A nursing assistant is available to perform blood tests and vaccinations. “If we see that there is a demand for more nursing services, indeed, we will seek to have more,” assures Emy-Lee Otis.
