“There were flames under the bus”

This Friday, December 20, 2024, early in the morning, the firefighters intervene to a bus fire in Le Havre, we learned from the departmental fire and rescue service.

A bus on fire at the top of the hill and the sound of an explosion

According to Sdis, the fire broke out around 7:15 a.m., on a bus at the top of the hill on rue Georges-Lafaurie. The vehicle, completely engulfed in flames when emergency services arrived, was empty of passengers.

According to an agent Lia interviewed on site, “a ten passengers were on board when the driver smelled a burning smell. There were flames under the bus.” The driver was able to bring the passengers to safety in time.

Several residents tell us they heard the sound of an explosion. Generally, during vehicle fires, it is the bursting of tires that generates this impressive sound.

16 firefighters are on the scene at the time of writing. It is recommended to avoid the area to allow their intervention.

Complicated traffic

Traffic is already very complicated in the area. A diversion has been put in place at the bottom of the hill and significant delays are expected at bus stops. Shortly before 9 a.m., traffic gradually resumed in the direction of descent.

As our journalist was able to observe on site, it is a bus which had been customized by the artist Jace, famous for his Gouzous.
