Arc Sud Bretagne has gained 1,892 inhabitants in five years

In the INSEE figures on demography revealed this Thursday, December 19, the community of communes of Arc Sud Bretagne stands out, in Morbihan and even in Brittany. In the top 5 for the highest annual population growth rate, it slips into 4th place, in a fray dominated by the Rennes communities.

Between 2016 and 2022, Arc Sud Bretagne saw its population grow each year by 1.13% on average, or 7% over five years. Its population is officially established at 29,113 inhabitants, that is to say 1,892 additional inhabitants.

The twelve municipalities have a green demographic, even if their attractiveness is not equivalent. It is on the coast and the banks of Vilaine that the increase in population is most significant. Three municipalities have an annual increase greater than 2%: Ambon (2.3%), Marzan (2.2%) and Damgan (2.1%). With Billiers, they account for half of the sector’s demographic growth in number of inhabitants.

According to the mayor of Ambon Noël Paul, the appeal of his town is explained in particular by its geographical position. “The city is well placed. It is located near the RN165, Muzillac, Damgan and the Rhuys peninsula. We have six kilometers of beaches and twenty campsites. There is also a medical office. Many businesses have opened in the last five years.” To meet the needs of the growing population, the school was recently expanded, as was the village hall. “Some 80 housing units should be built in 2026,” he specifies.

Muzillac-Nivillac the gap is closing

Growth rate is one thing. The number of additional inhabitants is another. With 325 new inhabitants, Marzan at the head of the Arc Sud Bretagne peloton, with Nivillac and its 323 inhabitants gained in its wheel. The latter thus consolidates its status as the second largest municipality in the public establishment of intermunicipal cooperation with 4,874 inhabitants.

Muzillac remains the heavyweight of the community with 5,022 inhabitants. These new figures also put it past the 5,000 inhabitants mark. But it is the municipality which progressed the least over the period. Talking about stability would also be more appropriate given growth of 0.1% per year, or a total of 23 more inhabitants than in 2016.
