JUSTICE – Justice has officially recognized the rapes and sexual assaults she suffered, under chemical submission, at the hands of her husband, Dominique Pelicot, and dozens of men. Present this Thursday, December 19 at the Avignon court where she was welcomed by banners and applause, to witness the verdict, Gisèle Pelicot spoke to the media from around the world.

“It is with deep emotion that I express myself before you. This trial was a very difficult ordeal and I think first and foremost of my 3 children”began Gisèle Pélicot.
Her ex-husband was sentenced to the maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, with the other 51 defendants receiving sentences ranging from 3 to 15 years in prison.
Speaking to AFP, a family member who requested anonymity expressed the disappointment of the children of Dominique and Gisèle Pelicot regarding the sentences of the co-defendants, judged « basses ». An observation supported in particular by the Women’s Foundation in a press release: “we share the incomprehension and disappointment at some of the sentences handed down, despite the witnesses and the evidence”.
Dominique Pelicot’s lawyer, Béatrice Zavarro, spoke around 11 a.m., welcoming the debates which were calm, she indicated that she would take the time in the next ten days to examine the possibility of appealing: “ At the end, I wanted the debates to be calm, and they were. I wanted Madame Pelicot to be able to leave peacefully, I think that the verdicts will contribute to this calming ».
