“A stone fell right next to my head.” Louisette Migliaccio was not hiking in the mountains… She was just on her garden level when a piece of the facade came loose, above her.
It seems that the unsanitary state of the Le Strelitzia residence, in the Fontonne district of Antibes, has not improved since our visit in… 2018!
At that time, residents had set up the association L’Elan du Strelitzia to make themselves heard by the social landlord Côte d’Azur Habitat, which did not move much in the face of the numerous deteriorations of these buildings built in 1987.
Almost seven years later, residents in distress contacted us again with the unpleasant impression “to be taken for imbeciles”.
“The lessor had promised renovations in 2023, before postponing them to 2025. But we have just learned that they will not be done next year! We can no longer live in this filth”deplores Marie-Reine Heinrich, the president of the association.
Mold, rats, jungle, rust…
The list is long: the walls of the buildings on the north side are moldy from humidity and certain parts are crumbling. Just like the balconies, whose rusty ironwork becomes visible. The stairwells are blackened with filth.
The lack of clearing gives a jungle effect, some ground floor apartments are swallowed up by laurels.
“The common trash cans, which are located outside, no longer close because the locks are broken. So we are invaded by rats… I tell you, we are not ashamed to bring friends over, because we are not proud to live here… sighs Josiane Lauret, the secretary. Do you realize that we pay 36,000 euros in maintenance per year for that?”
In reality, residents will still have to be patient, since the renovation work will not take place until… 2028.
Overall cost: €3.7M
Contacted by us, Côte d’Azur Habitat informs that this “overall intervention includes the renovation of the facade, with the restoration of the balconies, the replacement of windows, the repair of the halls and common areas and the location of the VMC”for a total cost of 3.7 million euros, “i.e. an investment of €45,000 in work per accommodation.”
For cleaning problems, the lessor ensures that “a call to order was made to his service provider so that this situation could be resolved as quickly as possible.”
As for the vegetation, “17,000 euros have been dedicated to green spaces and pruning missions in 2024. A tour of the residence is scheduled on this subject in the coming days, and a company will be commissioned in January 2025”adds Côte d’Azur Habitat.
The teams on site will be able to see the enormous work that remains to be accomplished to restore some dignity to residents.
