Invaded by pigeons, this town near Bayeux takes radical measures

Mainly installed in the townpigeons disturb the inhabitants of the town of Trévières (Calvados) on a daily basis with their droppings, leading to repeated complaints to the town hall teams.

“The municipality is already considering several solutions to keep them away. We know that several systems exist such as pointed shapes which deter pigeons from landing in a specific location,” explains Mireille Dufour, mayor. Before doing everything choicethe municipality wishes to take the time to understand each of the processes and their success rate.

The elected official recalls that several options offered to the municipality: “We may try to broadcast artificial animal cries in order to scare away the pigeons, however we must warn the inhabitants of the municipality before the installation of this system. »

“We receive several complaints”

In front of the old post office there is a ticket machineso that when a person wishes to use it, they can receive droppings pigeons on the head.

We have to clean the sidewalk every day.

Steps taken

“We called on a specialized company to keep the pigeons away while respecting the animal cause. ” Of the cages containing food will be installed in the village, then, attracted by this food, the pigeons must (in principle), enter the cages and be locked there.

Subsequently, the pigeons will be euthanized. This service billed 1 800 € in the municipality will be carried out over a week. “It’s something we want to avoid, even if this approach is legal, but we are forced to do it,” regrets Mireille Dufour.

Other municipalities affected

In Bessin, several other municipalities are affected by these nuisances. “We are not the only ones affected by this phenomenon. Other mayors with whom I spoke told me of the same problem,” confirms the mayor.
