“Around fifteen problematic students are ruining the lives of everyone else. » Emilie has been a history and geography teacher for four years at the Jules-Verne colleges in Déville-lès- (Seine-Maritime). This Monday, December 17, 2024, alongside other colleagues, she mobilized in front of the gates of the establishment to denounce “a climate of permanent violence and tension”.

The situation has deteriorated significantly within the establishment for more than a year and a half. It is particularly a question of physical violencebut also verbalin particular against supervisors and educational assistants, which may go as far as threat of death.

According to the teachings, this climate is linked to a administrative instability which results in a succession of several CPEs (principal education advisors) over the last few months. But not only that.

“We experience this violence on a daily basis”

Since the start of the year, the mobilized teachers have listed a total of six disciplinary boards. “There were seven temporary exclusions last week alone,” recalls one of them. Another example, the day before this mobilization, a student ended up in the emergency room after “a beating” by other classmates. The attack took place outside the walls of the establishment.

Adults, whether they are teachers, supervisors or even kitchen staff, but also other college students, are the victims of this group of disruptors.

We are short of supervisors. The students entered the rift. They sense when there is a breach.

Teachers at Jules-Verne college

“We experience this violence on a daily basis. We are spoken to in an aggressive manner,” lament Marlène and Catherine, respectively history-geography and SVT teachers. What emerges from the testimony of the different teachers is the “feeling of impunity” of this minority of students.

Also mobilized this Tuesday, Florence, representative of the parents of students, regrets that “our children are subjected to the climate described by the teachers”. She indicates in this regard that a letter was sent at the start of the school year to Dasen (academic director of national education services) to request a strengthening of the school life team.

The rectorate alerted, but what next?

“This climate of tension is linked to administrative instability,” believe the professors who also sent a letter to the academic director at the start of the school year. A particularly eventful return to school, marked in particular by an incident of cyberharassment.

The management and school life teams have been supported since the start of the school year by the regional education inspector of the college and the departmental technical advisor for establishments and school life who have visited the college several times since the start of the school year and interact regularly with the school principal. on monitoring the situation.

The academic director’s office

When questioned, the Dasen office first recalled that “the situation of the Jules-Verne college is well known to the academic director”.

Dasen also explains that several interventions have already taken place to support educational teams. “On the organization of school life at college, solutions are currently being sought by academic services,” continues the firm.

Finally, regarding security around the college, “the head of the establishment is in regular contact with the national police representative and the municipal police”.

For now, teachers and parents are waiting for concrete measures. “At the moment, it’s not getting any better. So, it’s hard to imagine the end of the year and the next six months,” laments Florence.
