Spanish actress Marisa Paredes has died at the age of 78. She was one of director Pedro Almodovar’s favorite actresses.

It’s a very familiar face to the faithful of Pedro Almodovar’s cinema who has left us. Marisa Paredes, actress seen notably in Stiletto heels, All about my mother, The skin I live in or Talk to her died at the age of 78. It was the Spanish Cinema Academy which announced the sad news this Tuesday, December 17.

Born in Madrid in 1946, Marisa Paredes has appeared in more than 75 films, 80 series and a dozen plays. But it is for her work in the feature films of Pedro Almodovar that she remains best known to the French public. The Spanish filmmaker also published three photographs of the actress on his Instagram account. In total, she filmed six times for the director, from 1983 to 2011.

She was also seen in the film Fallen from the sky by Philippe Lioret, Deep Carmine by Arturo Ripstein but also Life is beautiful de Roberto Benigni, The Devil’s Backbone by Guillermo del Toro. His last film role dates back to 2019.

Due to her long career spanning six decades, Marisa Paredes has received numerous awards, particularly for her work in the theater. She won the National Cinematography Prize in 1996, the Gold Medal of Merit for Fine Arts in 2007 and the Honorary Goya in 2018 (equivalent to the French Césars).
