INTERVIEW – The essayist and former LR MP worked alongside Michel Barnier for a long time at the RPR and then at the UMP. While acknowledging the Prime Minister’s ability to find compromises in the name of the general interest, he questions his chances of success and the rest of the five-year term.

LE FIGARO. – You know well Michel Barnier do you think that the President of the Republic made a good choice in appointing him Prime Minister? ?

Henri GUAINO. – Michel Barnier’s political sensitivity has been, from the beginning of his career, an extension of that embodied within the Gaullist movement by Jacques Chaban-Delmas, the father, with Jacques Delors, of the new society, therefore, a sense of duty, a social fibre and an open-mindedness which will be very useful in these complicated times.

Through his career, through what he has shown of himself, his personality, his character in all the responsibilities he has exercised, like Xavier Bertrand, like Bernard Cazeneuve, there is no doubt in my mind that Michel Barnier has all the personal qualities to exercise the function and ensure the continuity of the State.
