Fire on the outskirts of Narbonne, one house destroyed, four damaged

A fire, fanned by the wind, burned on Tuesday “between 60 and 70 hectares” vegetation near Narbonne (Aude) where a house was destroyed and four damaged, the sub-prefect of Aude told AFP, completing an initial assessment. The fire broke out around 3:30 p.m. southwest of the city and, “powered by a strong wind”burned “between 60 and 70 hectares approximately” before threatening a “Residential area”the prefecture first told AFP.

On site, a house was “completely destroyed” just like three cars «par propagation»and four other dwellings were “damaged”said the sub-prefect of Aude Rémi Recio, while an initial prefectural report indicated that three houses were damaged. There were no victims, he said, with only one firefighter having been “disturbed by fumes” and supported by his colleagues.

Fixed fire

“The fire is set” and is therefore no longer progressing, Mr. Recio announced shortly before 8:00 p.m., adding: “We will switch to the night surveillance and flooding system, with particular attention because part of the fire took place in an urban area.”. “There will be a house-by-house inspection to ensure that there are no attics that have received embers that could be a hot spot that could start up again.”. “The idea, obviously, is to ensure that there is no resumption of fire during the night.”he added.

A security perimeter has been established by the police and the populations on site are asked to stay at home, the situation does not require evacuation measures, it was added at the prefecture, only the inhabitants of the houses affected by the fire having been brought to safety. The Alternative Police union has also wished “Good luck to the police officers working with the firefighters”. In total, some 400 firefighters and “seven air assets” “four Canadairs, two Dashes and a Puma helicopter”according to the details of the sub-prefect of Aude, were deployed in the area. “The origin of the disaster is currently unknown.”the prefecture also indicated.
