On December 1, 2018, during the yellow vest movement, CRS officers were filmed beating protesters on the ground in a Parisian restaurant. The judicial investigation, which is coming to an end, and several administrative documents attest to the institution’s passivity and leniency towards its agents.

Five years of laborious and meticulous investigations culminated in the so-called Burger King investigation. On December 1, 2018, agents from a Republican Security Company (CRS) entered a restaurant of the fast-food chain on Avenue de Wagram, in the 17th arrondissement of Paris, where protesters had taken refuge, and beat them with batons and kicked them. In this case, one of the most emblematic of the surge in police violence that occurred during the yellow vest movement, nine civil servants were indicted for violence. At the end of July, the Paris prosecutor’s office requested that they be referred to the criminal court.
