The Rhône has absorbed nearly 10% of the national job cuts during this school year that has been feared for several months by unions, who are now calling for recruitment.

Their discontent has been growing for several months, and it is taking shape with the start of the school year. Teachers are calling for a demonstration this first weekend back at school, through the FO union, to protest against the job cuts in the department decided by outgoing Prime Minister Gabriel Attal and implemented by Nicole Belloubet. A rally is planned for this Saturday in Lyon, while the Rhône department is particularly affected by these school closures this year. An inter-union meeting scheduled for this Tuesday will decide the extent of the mobilization.

As early as last winter, the unions were vilifying “an unprecedented bloodletting” facing the elimination of 60 posts by the rectorate. That is almost 10% of the 650 job cuts requested in France by Gabriel Attal when he was still Minister of National Education. Academic support and reception of disabled students in decline

Behind the gates of the department’s schools, there are 118 fewer classes this year. “It was a massacre this year”deplores an elected FO representative to the Figaro. The replacement teachers are already “assigned to a class for the year” to overcome the shortage. In terms of academic support, there are 17 Rased positions to help students in difficulty, which are not filled.

In high school, class sizes rise to nearly 35 students according to unions which point out “a good number of hours not filled in middle and high schools”. School doctors and nurses are also lacking. Finally, students with disabilities have to cope with “hundreds of hours of AESH missing” and a wait for a place in a specialized establishment “several years”.

“This return to school is all the more unacceptable as it was implemented by a government and a minister who resigned and was illegitimate, whose measures were rejected during the last legislative elections.”attacks FO. The unions are demanding the repeal of the so-called measure “clash of knowledge”as well as pension reform in addition to the creation of new positions.
