Complicated morning, on this Christmas Day, at 105D avenue du Général-Leclerc, in Nancy. Around 10:15 a.m., emergency services were alerted for a fire that had started in an apartment located on the first floor of a residence below the Nancy artery.
Quickly on the scene, firefighters deployed significant resources. On site, a large ladder, which made it possible to reach the disaster and combat it, three ton pump vans, assistance and victim aid vehicles, but also a SAMU team, a command post as well as than a respiratory assistance unit.
Rapid evacuation
An imposing device which allowed the care of 32 people living in the residence, who had to be evacuated very quickly. In fact, some did not even have time to put on shoes and warm clothes. Among them, elderly people, but also children, including a baby. Four people were injured, two for first-degree burns, and two others for smoke intoxication and were evacuated to the emergency room. Everyone was welcomed in the hall of the Maréchal-Leclerc residence accompanied by SAMU doctors and firefighters.
At 11 a.m., firefighters were still working and flames were still visible in the home, which was completely destroyed. The fire started in the room, without its origin being known, the violence of the fire making it impossible for the moment to determine the exact causes.
Two families will have to be rehoused, and the other tenants do not know when they will be able to regain possession of their homes. Indeed, a long job awaits the firefighters, who will have to scrape the exterior insulation and also cut the floors, in order to ensure that no fire starts smoldering in the building.
A respiratory assistance unit was dispatched to the site, in order to be able to refill the bottles of the breathing apparatus isolating the firefighters, who are under the orders of Commander Geoffrey Baulin.

Living in a second floor apartment, Souad experienced a morning that she will not soon forget. “The firefighters came upstairs and knocked on doors asking if there was anyone in the apartments. I told him yes, and they told me to stay in the accommodation for the moment. Then we left the building, accompanied by the firefighters. It was impressive, there were flames, people everywhere and a lot of noise. »
