François Bayrou's government will be unveiled this Monday, December 23 at 6:30 p.m.indicated the Élysée, but without Xavier Bertrand, who announced shortly before the official announcement that he refused to join a team “formed with the approval of Marine Le Pen”.

“The Prime Minister informed me this morning, contrary to what he had proposed to me yesterday, that he was no longer able to entrust me with responsibility for the Ministry of Justice due to the opposition of the Rally national”, wrote Mr. Bertrand in a press release.

A significant defection for a Prime Minister looking for heavy weights on the right and leftto try to resolve the political crisis.

Decreed day of national mourning by President Emmanuel Macron for the Mayotte archipelago, devastated by Cyclone ChidoMonday is a delicate day to announce a government. But the latter remains promised “before Christmas” Wednesday.

But the composition of a government responds to a subtle dosage which must notably respect political balances, parity between men and women, and sensitivities.

Above all, ministers will have to urgently prepare a budget for 2025under pressure from oppositions and financial markets.

Personalities from the left?

The names of former Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne or from former Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin are mentioned to join François Bayrou's team.

Almost nothing filters through on personalities from the left, who could be tempted to join François Bayrou. If not, shortly before the announcement, the name of former Prime Minister Manuel Valls, expected to go overseas.

Former socialist minister François Rebsamen, 73, announced that he was “ready” to join the government, touting his “relationship of trust” for a long time with François Bayrou.

The Socialist Party formally refused to participate in the governmentand its boss Olivier Faure said to himself “dismayed at the poverty of what (was) proposed”, not ruling out censoring the brand new Prime Minister, an early ally of Emmanuel Macron.

Among the leavers, Catherine Vautrin (Territories), Rachida Data (Culture) and Sébastien Lecornu (Armies) should remain, probably in the same portfolios.

On the LR side, they obtained Monday the written commitment of the Prime Ministerparticularly on “savings” budgetary measures and the encouragement of “work by all means”, on which they had conditioned their participation in government.
