A 40-year-old man, detained at the Bar-le-Duc remand center (Meuse) on semi-release, decided not to show up when he returned to his cell after being refused leave. According to L'Est Républicain, the latter had been sentenced in October 2023 to one year in prison for driving without a license and under drugs.

Despite the imminent end of his sentence, the refusal of his request to attend his brother's wedding in September triggered his anger. He then chooses to escape and not return to his cell.

16 more months

His escape lasted only one day. The next day, a arrest warrant is launched against him, and he is found in a supermarket stealing a bottle of whiskey.

This man with an already extensive criminal record (23 convictions) is described as a “multi-hat offender”. His numerous past offenses, notably for aggravated theft and refusal to comply, have not worked in his favor.

The prosecutor requested an additional prison sentence. He ultimately received 16 months, including two for contempt of a law enforcement officer, after being tried for his escape.
