David Lappartient, president of CNOSFunderlined the exceptional scale of the event: “The Games have created a unique unity for French sport and for the nation. » With a broadcast of 3,800 hours of content, a total of 3.5 billion videos viewed in Europe and an enthusiastic global audience, the media impact has been enormous, as explained by Géraldine Pons, sports director of Eurosport France.
Sportingly, the Games revealed new talents and sparked enthusiasm for disciplines that are still little known. Enzo Lefort, Olympic champion, described these moments as “scenes of jubilation replacing a gloomy climate. »
A heritage with multiple dimensions
The Assembly highlighted four major areas for the legacy of the Games:
- Sporty : Significant increase in the number of graduates and popularization of new disciplines.
- Social : Promotion of inclusion, fight against discrimination and strengthening of community ties.
- Economic : Nearly 200,000 jobs in the sports sector, with growth of 7% per year for a decade. According to estimates, the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games have generated significant economic benefits for the Île-de-France region, estimated between 6.7 and 11.1 billion euros, with an intermediate scenario of 8.9 billion euros. This dynamic has also contributed to an increase in the number of graduates in several disciplines.
For example, the French Triathlon Federation recorded an increase of 32%, going from 61,000 to nearly 82,000 members in a few weeks. The French Fencing Federation recorded a 25% increase in its licensees, illustrating the enthusiasm around the Olympic disciplines.
According to the COSMOS x AÉSIO Mutuelle study, this dynamic contributes significantly to the local and national economy, while strengthening the attractiveness of the regions for new investors.
- Environmental : Raising awareness of sustainable development and implementing eco-responsible practices.
Thierry Teboul, general director of Afdas, stressed that the structuring of the sector was essential to welcome new practitioners. The key figures from the COSMOS x AÉSIO Mutuelle study revealed crucial needs in terms of training and infrastructure.
Challenges for sports structures
Clubs face several challenges to transform the trial:
- Adaptation of infrastructures : Welcoming a wider base of practitioners while offering diversified offers.
- Professionalization : Optimize resources and strengthen management skills.
- Funding : Diversify sources of income and strengthen public and private partnerships.
The Assembly insisted on the role of COSMOS in this support. Philippe Diallo said: “COSMOS is stronger than ever, with a representativeness of more than 80%. »
A lever for public policies
Marie-Amélie Le Fur, president of the National Sports Agency, recalled that sport is a powerful tool for social and economic inclusion. Thibaut Desjonquères, founder of the Pluricité group, assessed the economic impact of sport as a “cost avoided for society”, thanks to its benefits in terms of health and social cohesion.
The Paris 2024 Games were a historic opportunity to reinvent sport in France. To perpetuate this heritage, players in the sector will have to combine institutional efforts and commitment from the sporting base. Everyone can contribute by investing in local initiatives, supporting sports clubs or participating in activities that strengthen social bonds through sport. COSMOS, as a pillar of this ecosystem, has a key role to play in supporting clubs and implementing the necessary solutions.
As pointed out Gil AvérousMinister of Sports: “The success of the Games is based on the pooling of equipment, inclusion and the feminization of practices. » An ambitious but essential path to making sport a lasting engine of social and economic transformation.
