up to +37.5% depending on the country

Bad end-of-year news for subscribers to X (formerly Twitter) who are looking to get the best of the platform. The site has announced a significant increase in prices for its Premium+ subscription, its most expensive offer. Increases vary widely by region, with a marked rise in Europe and even larger increases in some emerging markets.

Prices revised upwards, particularly in

For users in France, the Premium+ subscription increases from €19.36 per month to €21, and the annual subscription from €203.28 to €219. In the United States, prices increased from $16 to $22 per month, an increase of 37.5%, and from $168 to $229 for the annual plan.

X clarified that current subscribers will keep their old rate until their next billing cycle after January 20, 2025. New subscribers, on the other hand, have already been paying these revised prices since December 21.

A more or less heavy overall impact

All countries in the European Union saw their monthly rates rise from €19.36 to €21, an increase similar to that observed in France. Canada, for its part, goes from 20 CAD to 29 CAD. But it is in certain countries like Nigeria or Turkey that the increase is most notable: Nigerian subscribers see their monthly rate jump from ₦7,300 to ₦34,000, while in Turkey, the price increases from ₺300 at ₺770. Perhaps to prevent subscribers from using VPNs to subscribe in these countries, even though they are located in countries where the subscription is much more expensive?

The reasons given for this increase

In a press release, X explains this increase by several factors:

An ad-free experience : Premium+ subscribers now benefit from access completely free of advertisements, an improvement that the platform describes as significant.

Additional features : The subscription now includes tools like Radar, which tracks trends and keywords in real time, as well as increased limits for Grok artificial intelligence models.

Support for Content Creators :

X increases the prices of its Premium+ subscription: up to +37.5% depending on the country

A double-edged strategy?

With these increases, X communicates about improving the user experience and funding creators to justify the prices. But hey, these are big increases, users will have to evaluate if these new benefits compensate for such a significant increase.

The prices for basic subscriptions remain unchanged, which could encourage some Premium+ subscribers to review their plans. Are you subscribed to X Premium? If so, what formula, and for what reasons?
