Caledonians could take advantage of this last weekend before Christmas to complete their gift shopping. In a context of a very difficult economic crisis, the greatest attention is paid to prices.

In the heart of Nouméa, the Ressourcerie's mission is to give a second life to objects offered by individuals. As the holidays approach, its shelves are frequented by regulars, but also by newcomers. “It's the first time I've come with the childrenconfirms this mother. We look at Christmas presents. It's ten times cheaper than new, and we are also in the process of consuming differently. It’s exactly what we want.”

For this grandmother, coming to a second-hand store is above all a question of saving money. “I often go to games for the grandchildren. Because it’s cheaper.” The place promises quality purchases at very low prices. “But for all that, we really see that people are careful about what they buy. For reasons, I think, more economic than ecological”shares the director of the Ressourcerie, Amélie Toureau-Tabard.

Another popular place as the holidays approach is this discount store in Dumbéa-sur-mer. “We make do with the little we have”slips a young mother immersed in the quest for toys. According to the store manager, the stocks put on the shelves for Christmas have decreased significantly. Consumers want to please their loved ones and their children.

“The beginnings were timidJimmy Royle’s signature, but there, we realize that the customers are present. A large part of our stocks are gone, we are at the end.” Despite the current deep crisis, Christmas remains a celebration, and the Caledonians we met want the magic to happen.
