It was a somewhat special Sainte-Barbe this Saturday, December 14, 2024 in Grand-Lucé, because just as the ceremony was about to begin, a fire broke out in a house in the town. The departmental service dispatched several emergency centers and eight volunteers from the Grand-Lucé center to the site. The house was destroyed, but the residents escaped unharmed.
Thirty firefighters including seven women
Despite this intervention, Mickaël Munar, the head of the center, maintained the ceremony in front of the volunteers present, the families, the population, elected officials, Sdis officials and the music of Grand-Lucé.
+ Le Grand-Lucé. Tractors boost the Christmas market
The Grand-Lucé rescue center has thirty firefighters (seven women and twenty-four men) aged from 20 to 64 years old. Mickaël Munar is satisfied with the female representation If you come across a firefighter in Grand-Lucé, there is a one in four chance that it will be a woman. The average age of the workforce is 35 years old, one of the lowest in the department, which is encouraging.
.
Training is essential for firefighters. 800 hours of training were carried out, all on the volunteers' personal rest time. I thank the families for their understanding and support, Sainte-Barbe is also dedicated to them.
.
The rescue center has three firefighting machines and an ambulance to carry out the missions.
In one year, 254 interventions were recorded: 186 emergency rescues to people, 23 accidents on public roads, 31 fires and 14 various operations such as flooding and animal rescue.
