This December 22 will remain, regardless of the result, a historic date for the Still-Mutzig Association (ASM). This Sunday, the Alsatian amateur club from Regional 1 faces Stade de Reims, a Ligue 1 club, in the 32nd final of the French Football Cup.
Before returning to the Champenois, currently 10th in Ligue 1, in Molsheim, the ASM players have already played six rounds of the competition, while Stade de Reims is entering the competition. The Alsatians entered the competition in the third round, in September, during their 9-2 victory against AFJ Hautepierre away.
This was before having AS Sélestat Portugais (3-0), Wittenheim (5-1) and Metz ESAP (4-0), again each time away from their bases. This was before winning 1-0 against Illkirch-Graffenstaden then, on November 30, with a score of 4 goals to 1 against the Guadeloupais des Abymes.
This success therefore opened the doors to the 32nd finals of the Coupe de France for Jacky Duguépéroux's men, the highest stage of the competition reached by the very recently created club. Indeed, ASM was born in 2022 from the merger of FC Still 1930 and AS Mutzig.
The latter club has also experienced several epics in the Coupe de France in the past, such as in 1965, when Arsène Wenger and his teammates already reached the round of 16 against Stade de Reims. For its part, FC Still, then in Regional 3, reached the 32nd finals in 2017, becoming the first eighth division club to achieve this performance.
The 32nd final of the Coupe de France between the Still-Mutzig Association and the Stade de Reims can be followed this Sunday, December 22 from 2:30 p.m. on the channels of France 3 Alsace, France 3 Champagne-Ardenne and on france.tv .
