François Bayrou's government could be announced this Sunday even if uncertainties remain.
While France will observe a day of mourning, this Monday, in tribute to the victims of Cyclone Chido in Mayotte, will the government of François Bayrou, promised “before Christmas” by MoDem Marc Fesneau, fall this Sunday? A possibility that is becoming more and more apparent.
In the meantime, the casting is being refined. If, this Sunday, in the JDD, Bruno Retailleau set his conditions for remaining at the Ministry of the Interior, he seems very well on his way to remaining at Place Beauvau, the Republicans having confirmed their probable presence in the government despite the absence of Laurent Wauquiez .
Among the other ministers almost guaranteed to keep their position, we would find, according to BFM TV Rachida Dati, Sébastien Lecornu, a close friend of the President of the Republic, Jean-Noël Barrot who should however leave the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Geneviève Darrieussecq, the MoDem in charge of Health.
To this list, Le Parisien adds Catherine Vautrin (Territories) and Annie Genevard (Agriculture).
Bertrand, Darmanin and Borne in the government?
Among the new faces, the LR boss of Hauts-de-France, Xavier Bertrand, could well appear in the casting of the Bayrou government.
Socialist, former support of Emmanuel Macron, François Rebsamen, ex-mayor of Dijon and former Minister of Labor of François Hollande, said he was “ready to get involved”. He would be the essential left-wing guarantee for François Bayrou, especially in the event of Didier Migaud's departure from Place Vendôme.
Among the other names cited, those of Gérald Darmanin for Foreign Affairs, Elisabeth Borne for National Education and Patrick Mignola for relations with Parliament, come up insistently.
Note that the president of the Court of Auditors, Pierre Moscovici, was probed and could be one of the surprises of the Bayrou government.
These guarantees received by Retailleau to remain
Maintaining Bruno Retailleau at the Interior is still a red line for the Socialist Party, the Ecologists and the Communists, members of the NFP ready not to automatically censor the government. And yet, the Republican, on the front line in Mayotte, would remain in office. He also set his conditions to appear in the casting of François Bayrou.
According to BFM TV, he would have “obtained the guarantee of being able to continue his work in the fight against illegal immigration and in controlling legal immigration”.
Why did Wauquiez refuse to join the government?
The president of the Les Républicains group in the National Assembly, Laurent Wauquiez, refused this Saturday to join François Bayrou's government.
The president of the Rhône-Alpes-Auvergne region wanted assurance that there would be no tax increases from the government and, above all, he wanted to lead the Ministry of the Economy and nothing else . Which François Bayrou would not have assured him. Wauquiez therefore declined.
