Red lantern of Ligue 1, Montpellier suffered an immense humiliation on Saturday evening in the Coupe de France by losing 4-0 on the lawn of Puy Foot. A situation which does not traumatize Captain Teji Savanier.
While his team is going through a huge crisis and has just lost 4-0 in the Coupe de France against Puy Foot, a National 2 team, Teji Savanier stood out and not really for the right reasons. Criticized for several weeks for his performances as well as his level of form, the MHSC captain broke down in the middle of the match on Saturday on the Puy lawn. Questioned by supporters asking him if that “didn’t hurt” to be last in Ligue 1 while he was about to take a corner, Teji Savanier surprised his interlocutor… by revealing his salary.
And the punchline of the former Nîmes midfielder risks greatly displeasing Laurent Nicollin. “When you earn 210,000 euros per month, it’s okay” said Teji Savanier, with a smirk. Obviously unaffected by the dramatic situation of his club, which is heading straight towards Ligue 2, the 33-year-old midfielder is causing controversy on social networks, where MHSC supporters are logically revolted. A sanction could be taken against the native of Montpellier while Jean-Louis Gasset's team will resume competition in 2025 with an ultra-dangerous trip to the Olympique Lyonnais pitch. Not really the ideal match on paper to regain confidence after the holidays.
