The mass distribution brand Intermarché has announced a special operation to sell fuel at cost price in all of its service stations. This limited offer, launched on Friday December 20, ends on the evening of this Saturday December 21, 2024. Motorists looking for competitive prices are invited to hurry, especially as this initiative comes as departures approach for Christmas vacation.
An attractive but limited offer
This operation consists of offering diesel and gasoline without a profit margin for the distributor. According to the data provided, the price of a liter of diesel is set at 1.535 euros, while a liter of SP95 gasoline is offered at 1.559 euros in certain stations, notably that of Ris-Orangis in Île-de-France. These prices prove attractive, particularly for Ile-de-France residents, where the average cost of the SP95 is 1,747 euros.
However, in comparison with certain competing brands such as E. Leclerc or Système U, this offer does not always stand out significantly. For example, in the Leclerc station in Surgères, diesel is priced at 1.533 euros, a price slightly lower than that offered by Intermarché. Nevertheless, on SP95 gasoline, Intermarché remains competitive, with prices among the lowest observed nationally.
An initiative with a dual objective
The main objective of this operation seems to be to capture the attention of motorists as the Christmas holidays approach, a time when many French people take the road to join their loved ones. By displaying attractive prices, Intermarché hopes to both relieve consumer budgets and strengthen its image as a distributor engaged in a period of general rising costs.
This flash sale also takes place in a context where major retail brands regularly compete to offer fuel at cost price, particularly during periods of high mobility. These initiatives help generate increased traffic at adjacent stations and stores.
Last chance to benefit from fuel at cost price
For motorists, this offer represents a one-time opportunity to save on fuel. However, with an end scheduled for this evening, you will have to be responsive to benefit from it. An initiative which, although ephemeral, reflects the growing pressure placed on distributors to meet consumers' expectations in terms of purchasing power.
