A fire ravaged part of an agricultural shed, Saturday December 21, 2024, shortly before 2 a.m., at a place called “Les Maisons Rouges” in the town of Sepmes.
The 2,000 m² building was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on site, coming from the emergency centers of Sainte-Maure-de-Touraine, Manthelan and Loches. The intervention lasted more than 2.5 hours. No injuries were reported. Around fifty cows, present in a neighboring building, were evacuated preventively by the farming couple before the firefighters arrived.
The preferred accidental track
Part of the hangar and equipment were destroyed by fire. The gendarmerie also came.
According to initial findings made on site by the military, the fire broke out on one of the agricultural vehicles stored in the hangar and which damaged two other vehicles parked nearby.
“We are not heading towards a malicious act but the investigation which is starting will have to confirm it”specifies Captain Gilles Gheysen, second in command of the Loches gendarmerie company, contacted this Saturday, December 21 at mid-morning.
“It’s probably a short circuit on a tractor. It’s a real challenge for them but there will be solidarity with other farmers in the town who will come to help the young couple of farmers who settled here in 2021”indicated the mayor of Sepmes, Régine Rezeau, also contacted this Saturday morning.
Firefighters will remain on surveillance all day Saturday, December 21 to prevent a possible resumption of the fire.
