Are the works scaring away the inhabitants of Clermont-Ferrand? Obviously not. In Clermont and its living area, between 2016 and 2022, the population increased by 0.45% (from 146,112 to 150 251 habitants).

In six years, the metropolitan population went from 362,147 to 370 634according to demographic data from the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE), published on December 19, 2024.

A positive migration balance

In the Puy-de-Dôme department, there were 664,385 inhabitants in 2016 compared to 650 700 in 2022, an increase of 0.3%.

The demographic growth of Drôme and Puy-de-Dôme is based on net migration

8,163,884 people live in Auvergne‑Rhône‑Alpes
As of January 1, 2022, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is the second most populous region in with more than 8.1 million inhabitants. Its population increases by 0.51% per year on average between 2016 and 2022, an increase higher than the national average.

The number of inhabitants is increasing in the eastern departments of the region, like the living areas located around Geneva and . On the other hand, it is decreasing in Cantal and Allier. Compared to the period 2011-2016, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is the region in which population growth slows down the most.
