Heading into the first heat, Hosking scored 57.66 points, a mark she said was a bit disappointing, but left room for improvement for her second run.
The athlete from Mille-Isles then wanted to work harder on his second attempt. Everything was going wonderfully, until she fell during her very last maneuver.
“It pinches and it’s frustrating. After my first run, I didn’t think I would have such a low score. I had the opportunity to do better on the second descent, but I fell. It was going really well, I managed my switch 720, which was my big maneuver, but I wasn’t able to improve my result because of the fall,” said Elizabeth Hosking.
“If I landed my last jump, I think it would have been enough to advance to the final. I was so close and I think that’s why it’s so hard to accept. I’m making good progress, but I can’t wait to take the next step. »
Hosking finished in seventh place in his heat while the final was reserved for the top five in the standings.
American Chloe Kim, gold medalist at the Beijing Olympics, flew through qualifying with 84.66 points on her first run. She improved her total, bringing it to 90 points, during her second appearance in the halfpipe. The final will be held on Friday.
Absent from competitions for more than a year and a half, Hosking made her return at the World Cup in Secret Garden, China, on December 6, taking ninth place in qualifying while the top eight advanced to the final.
Even though she is aware that these moments are part of the process of being back at the top, the 23-year-old snowboarder admits to not getting used to this kind of disappointment.
“I feel like I’m on the right track, results like yesterday (Wednesday) are hard to accept, but it fuels the flame even more to be better next time. I want to stay positive, my coach is motivated for the future and, what’s more, the other competitors tell me that I seem to be finding my level more and more, that feels good,” concluded the Quebecer.
The next Snowboard Halfpipe World Cup will be held January 15-18 in Laax, Switzerland. Elizabeth Hosking will take a few days off to enjoy the holiday season with family in Quebec, before returning to training with the goal of participating in a first final this season.
