Frédéric Lheureux creates a labyrinth at Price, combining nature, biodiversity and education, with the ambition of soon opening his gardens to the public.

On the edge of the D922, in Prix (Causse-et-Diège), a labyrinth project is instigated by Frédéric Lheureux, a resident of the town. He founded the association “Les jardin labyrinthes melliféériques” and planted the first species in November 2023.

A project respectful of biodiversity

“I chose 100% local plants, hawthorn, dogwood, hazel or country maple for example,” explains the leader of this ambitious project. His idea is to develop several labyrinths on his 3.2 hectare land. “I have been working there for a year, I have already planted 1,000 shrubs. I am alone in financing the project for the moment, but I am looking for partners for the plantations or to help me develop the land. »

Frédéric Lheureux has already built a few partnerships, notably with the “1 Million d’arbres” association in which provided 400 plants for a first day of activities. Last Friday, December 6, children from Gelles school came to discover the site, the project and to plant trees. It was also with the help of the Figeac Lions Club that this operation was carried out. In fact, Rotary chartered the bus which took the children from CE2, CM1 and CM2 classes who came to the site.

A first labyrinth around the human body

“What motivates me is creation,” enthuses Frédéric Lheureux, “being in nature, working for biodiversity and involving young people, giving them a taste for planting, having the pride of saying I have planted a tree! “.

The first labyrinth in progress is built around the theme of the human body, with areas dedicated to each part of the body, like an anatomy textbook. “For the next labyrinths, I am thinking of developing the question of the different age groups of human beings or the different mythologies of the world” explains Frédéric Lheureux to very attentive children interested in this pharaonic project. He also tells how he shaped the land into terraces with the help of professionals and adapted machines. “I also made a water reservoir to predict years of drought. Even if for the moment there is no shortage of water! »

An invitation to discover the project

Ultimately, the labyrinths will be open to the public, “I hope in 5 years if all goes well and depending on the access work to the land that will be carried out, but part of the site will perhaps already be open to visits from next year. »

Today, the plants are only a few dozen centimeters tall. While waiting to be able to get lost in Price between bushy hedges, Frédéric Lheureux offers all schools, structures or associations the opportunity to come and take a guided tour of his labyrinths in the making.
