As you approach retirement age, how much pension will you receive if you have been a housewife for a long time? Some answers with specialist Valérie Batigne.
During their careers, some have chosen to stay at home to take care of their children. So much so that in 2021, 6.3% of French women aged 15 to 64 were “at home”, according to figures from the Territorial Observatory. But after five, ten, sometimes twenty-five years spent without working for a company, such a lifestyle will “necessarily have a heavy impact on the amount of retirement”. This is what Valérie Batigne, president of Sapiendo Retraite, immediately warns. What pension can we still hope to receive? What about calculating quarters? The specialist responds.

Missing quarters
One thing is certain, pausing your career in order to devote yourself to household and family tasks will reduce the amount of your pension. And for good reason: it will be difficult to reach the 166 to 172 quarters (depending on the year of birth) allowing you to obtain a full-rate pension, indicates Valérie Batigne.
