The ASSE women are preparing to start a new adventure this season. Currently 7th in the Arkema Premier League championship with 15 points after 11 days, they will enter the competition in the Coupe de France. They will host Olympique de Marseille, a Division 2 team, on Sunday January 12.
The start of the ASSE season was marked by three consecutive victories against Reims, Nantes and Paris FC. Enough to launch their championship perfectly. But the following weeks proved more complicated, with checkered results.
Despite a defeat in their last match in front of nearly 4,000 spectators at Geoffroy-Guichard, the Stéphanoises seem to be regaining some color. They are on the right track to achieve their priority objective: to maintain themselves.
The Coupe de France, another adventure
Now for the Coupe de France, a competition where the Stéphanoises will play without pressure and will be able to shine. The draw reserved a home clash against Olympique de Marseille. This team is currently in Division 2. On paper, the Greens are favorites, but they will have to be careful. The Marseille players will come with ambition. Last year, ASSE left the competition in the round of 16 after a narrow defeat against Paris Saint-Germain (2-1). The Stéphanoises held their own against the Parisiennes before giving in in the 88th minute.
Maintenance objective for ASSE
This season, the main objective remains clear: to ensure maintenance. With a 7th place and 15 points halfway through, Laurent Mortel’s players are well on their way to achieving this. However, this Coupe de France represents a great opportunity to shine, especially when the opponent is playing in a lower division.
