On the occasion of the Lithuanian season and the Extra! festival, the exhibition curator presents two projects, including “Hypnotic Show” at the Centre Pompidou, placed under the sign of play and fiction.

We first encountered him at the Venice Biennale in 2013, in a gymnasium annexed to house the unexpected alliance of Cyprus and Lithuania, temporary roommates in a common pavilion. The exhibition curator Raimundas Malasauskas, born in Vinius in 1973, orchestrated a performed and enchanted exhibition there, populated by discreet apparitions, in which it was difficult to separate art from life. In 2022, still in Venice, his presence was more discreet, and for good reason: the Russian pavilion he curated had not opened its doors after Putin had declared war on Ukraine a few weeks earlier. “I was born and raised in Lithuania, which was then part of the Soviet Union. I lived there until its dissolution in 1989. The idea of going back to live under the Russian Empire, or any other empire, is simply intolerable,” the international curator had announced, inspired author of numerous projects (including the Baltic Triennial or the Liverpool Biennial) always placed under the sign of speculation.

But we had forgotten, probably under the effect of an altered state of consciousness, having participated in this first iteration of its unclassifiable Hypnotic Show : a hypnosis session
