September 2001. Only a few weeks before the arrival of a certain Star Academy on TF1, M6 decides to launch its musical talent show: Pop stars. The aim of the show: to show viewers all the steps of creating a group. To decide between the candidates throughout the adventure, the production relies on a jury, composed of three professionals. Popstars is a ratings success, and allows artists to make a place for themselves on the French music scene. During the first season, the L5 come out winners, before the next two are won by the Whatfor and the Linkup (composed in particular of M. Humility). A fourth edition will subsequently be broadcast on M6 in 2007, before the show is relaunched in 2017 on D8. Seven years after the fifth season, Pop stars will make a new comeback, this time settling on the side of Prime Video.
