Ramadan: Morocco’s football team victim of racist insults in its Madrid hotel

Currently in Spain, where it will face Peru this Tuesday in a friendly match, the Moroccan team has been the target of racist insults from several employees of its hotel in Madrid.

The Morocco team has settled in Spain. After their historic victory this weekend against Brazil (2-1), the Atlas Lions headed to Madrid, where they will face Peru on Tuesday in a friendly match. And on the sidelines of this meeting, Walid Regragui and his players were victims of racist insults from members of the staff of their Madrid hotel.

Several photos, posted on social networks, show employees in the kitchens of the establishment. And these shots are accompanied by legends with overtly racist connotations towards the Moroccan selection in the midst of Ramadan.

Informed, the management of the hotel strongly condemned these acts and will provide the police with all the elements at their disposal. “First of all, we want to apologize to all those who were offended by what happened,” she wrote before specifying that the authors of these insults had been thanked.

“Those responsible for these images do not belong to the hotel or the chain, but they work there when there are events in the hotels, and they have already been fired, denounced and made available to the police for answer for their actions,” assured the hotel. One of them, 28 years old and of Spanish origin, has already been arrested by the authorities.

Asked about the subject in a pre-match press conference, the Moroccan coach showed a lot of leniency and indulgence. “We’re not going to dwell on that. In our religion, we are taught forgiveness and we forgive it. The best example in this period of Ramadan is to forgive him and understand that what he thinks of Muslims is not the reality. I don’t want to talk about it anymore,” said Walid Regragui.
