The City of Zug had decided, for ecological reasons, to do without fireworks for August 1st, and to offer the population an aquatic spectacle. It was counting without the millionaire Niklas Nikolajsen, who made his fortune in cryptocurrencies. He offered the Zugois 35 tons of rockets and other firework mortars, reports “20 minuten” on Monday.

The fire will be fired from three boats with a total area of 500 square meters, specifies “20 minutes”. It will be “the biggest fireworks ever fired in the canton of Zug”, reports the millionaire on his Instagram account. “It’s a private initiative on his part, rejoices Dominic Keller, director of the Tourist Office and member of the organizing committee for the August 1st festival in the city of Zug. Probably just because he likes fireworks and because we don’t have any this year.” The City has therefore decided to accept the gift and include it in the program of festivities.

Drone show in Biel, but not in Yverdon

In French-speaking Switzerland, the subject has been debated for several years now. Dangerous, expensive and above all not very ecological, fireworks are often criticized or even completely abandoned. This was the case, for example, in Delémont (JU), Renens (VD) and Gland (VD) last year. Bienne had offered a drone show instead of the traditional pyrotechnic show. It will be repeated this year.

But Yverdon-les-Bains (VD) has abandoned this same idea, which is too expensive and restrictive in terms of space and security, “La Côte” tells us. The daily goes around the major cities of Vaud in its Monday edition to find that most of them have maintained their fireworks again this year, with the exception of Vevey, which invites its population to make proposals to animate the national holiday.

Friborg renounces and Geneva limits

Friborg also announced that it was giving up launching its rockets this year, in order to avoid “disturbances for wildlife, light pollution and then noise of course”, justifies the trustee of Friborg at 7:30 p.m. from RTS Friday evening. Lausanne, for its part, maintains its lights. The Canton of Geneva has just banned rockets and other private vesuvius. Only professionals will be authorized this year to shoot fires. Finally, it should be noted that a popular federal initiative to ban fireworks for individuals is in the process of collecting signatures. It is about to be completed, with more than 90,000 parafes already collected.
