Take out the popcorn. The followers of the oval ball have been waiting for this shock for long weeks now. Two years after their last confrontation in the final of the Top 14, Toulouse and La Rochelle meet again to compete for the Shield of Brennus and the title of champion of France. Real winning machines throughout the season, the two formations should offer a spectacle of choice at the Stade de France.
European champion for the second consecutive year after a new success against Leinster a month ago (26-27), Stade Rochelais dreams of an incredible double this Saturday in the Lyon enclosure. Full of confidence and carried by duty players, but also its myriad of talents, from Will Skelton to Jonathan Danty via Tawera Kerr-Barlow and Antoine Hastoy, the Maritimes are facing a gigantic challenge.
Because La Rochelle will have a lot to do. Stripped of its titles of champion of France and champion of Europe last year, Stade Toulousain is revengeful. The twenty-one-time winner of the Bouclier de Brennus club wants to regain its place at the top of French rugby. Impressive against Racing in the semi-finals (41-14), the band of Antoine Dupont is also on a mission. The opposition promises to be thrilling with the Charentais.
