Brussels: a man, stuck in the shutter of a metro station, died

A man died overnight from Friday to Saturday after getting stuck in a shutter of the Rogier metro station in central Brussels. This is what the Brussels firefighters said.

“This morning, around 4:30 a.m., the fire brigade, medical services, police and Stib intervened for a person stuck in a roller shutter at the Rogier metro station”said fire department spokesman Walter Derieuw. “He was trapped in the upper torso. After being freed, a regrettably unsuccessful resuscitation attempt was immediately made. The man died at the scene. The circumstances are under investigation. ”

This drama comes after several incidents involving station shutters in recent weeks. On Wednesday, the emergency services intervened at the Porte de Hal station in Saint-Gilles for a man whose leg was stuck under a shutter. He had been taken to hospital. A week earlier, a similar incident had occurred at the Parvis de Saint-Gilles station. Two months earlier, on March 19, a man had also been trapped in one of the entrances to Porte de Namur station.

Since March, four people have therefore been stuck in the shutters of metro stations, one of whom has died.

This Wednesday, the firefighters had already intervened for a person stuck in a shutter of the Porte de Hal metro station.
