Between architectural discoveries, natural heritage and gourmet pleasures, South Aveyron revealed its multiple facets in the 2 news, this Friday January 24.

The 1 p.m. news on France 2 devoted a long segment to and South Aveyron this Friday, January 24. A truly immersive journey entitled “The Breath of Aveyron” and offered by journalist Muriel Lassaga and the France Télévisions teams.

To open this beautiful report, what could be more spectacular than the Millau Viaduct? This giant of steel and concrete, which seems to float between sky and earth, celebrates its twentieth anniversary this year. But the journey does not end there with an enchanting detour to discover a more confidential treasure, nestled in the woods.

A spiritual stop at the Russian chapel of Sylvanès

Built entirely of wood, the Russian chapel of Sylvanès is a parenthesis of authenticity and serenity. Imported in the 1990s, it rises in the heart of the Aveyron landscape with its timeless charm. Every month, an Orthodox priest leads a liturgy there, offering a spiritual touch to this unique place. However, this jewel is today threatened: insects are attacking its fragile structure, highlighting the urgency of preserving this atypical heritage.

Millau: between sport, nature and traditions

Back in Millau, head towards La Pouncho d'Agast which overlooks the city of the glove. A true paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, this natural setting attracts running, cycling and paragliding enthusiasts. In the shadow of the peaks, another tradition continues: that of Flaune, a typical delicacy from southern Aveyron.

It is Sami Al Jaza, talented artisan of the Saint-Jacques pastry, who reveals the secrets of this local specialty here on the Place du Mandarous. Already a finalist for La Meilleure Boulangerie de France, the young man highlights this tart with fresh sheep's cheese and the subtle scent of orange blossom.

This report also highlights other regional treasures, such as the Abbey of Sylvanès, a place of tranquility and sacred music, or the Rougier de Camarès, with its breathtaking glowing landscapes. Without forgetting the unique know-how of the Millavine glove maker in the Fabre workshops, a symbol of elegance and tradition.

The report can be found in REPLAY in this 1 p.m. newscast on the France Télévisions website (it starts at 29 minutes and 25 seconds)
