Here's where to find the best honeys in the Essonne department

An essential ingredient for breakfast, or even sweet and savory dishes… Honey accompanies our meals in a thousand and one ways. But we still have to find the best. To help us in this quest for excellence, the Société Centrale d'Apiculture de distinguished the best honeys from the Île-de- region for the year 2024, on November 16 at the Beffroi, in . Among the 114 award-winning honeys19 come from Essonne.

Six gold medals in Essonne

For this 23rd edition of the Île-de-France honey competition and for the 7th edition of the metropolitan honey competition, 367 samples were presented by 194 beekeepers. 118 jurors met on Friday, November 15, 2024, to rate the samples presented according to different criteria, namely aroma, color, intensity, balance and even flavor.

Several Essonian beekeepers have distinguished themselves by winning a gold medal. René Vicogne, beekeeper at Rucher de Verrières, in Verrières-le-Buisson, won this fabulous success in the “Chestnut Honey” category.

In the various categories “All flower honey”five gold medals were won by Essonniens. They are Christophe Epiard in Athis-Mons, Dominique Gobourg from the Apilia company in Crosne, Alain Bichot from Miel de la Familoune in Plessis-Pâté, Christophe Laîné from Rucher de la BA217 in Brétigny-sur-Orge and the company Bee Happy Honey in Paray-Vieille-Poste.

Other Essonniens rewarded

Thirteen other honeys from the Essonne department also received a distinction. Here they are:

  • René Vicogne, beekeeper at Rucher de Verrières, in Verrières-le-Buisson, won the bronze medal in the “Acacia honey” category.
  • Michel Rome, beekeeper Aux nectars des fées, in Leuville-sur-Orge, won the silver medal in the “Chestnut Honey” category.
  • Dominique and Delphine Gobourg from the Apilia company, based in Athis-Mons, won the bronze medal in the “All-flower honey – Harvested in spring – liquid” category.
  • Arnaud Fourest, beekeeper in Ballancourt-sur-Essonne, won the silver medal in the “All-flower honey – Harvested in summer – crystallized” category.
  • Marc Joiron, beekeeper in Viry-Châtillon, won the silver medal in the “All-flower honey – Harvested in summer – crystallized” category.
  • René Vicogne, beekeeper in Champlan, won the bronze medal in the “All-flower honey – Harvested in summer – crystallized” category.
  • Daniel Somson from La miellery de misery, in Vert-le-Petit, won the silver medal in the “Forest honeydew” category.
  • René Vicogne, beekeeper in Verrières-le-Buisson, won the silver medal in the “Forest honeydew” category.
  • Bee Happy Miel, in Saclay, won the silver medal in the “Honey of all flowers – Harvested in summer – liquid” category.
  • Daniela Christian-Diard, beekeeper in Morsang-sur-Orge, won the agent medal in the “Honey of all flowers – Harvested in summer – liquid” category.
  • Fabrice and Virginia Leite, beekeepers in Morangis, won the agent medal in the “Honey of all flowers – Harvested in summer – liquid” category.
  • Bee Happy Miel, in , won the bronze medal in the “Honey of all flowers – Harvested in summer – liquid” category.
  • Nicolas Desroche, in Athis-Mons, Bee Happy Miel, in Saclay, won the bronze medal in the “Honey of all flowers – Harvested in summer – liquid” category.
