La Mauricie National Park at risk of fire in the future

La Mauricie National Park would be among the ten national parks most vulnerable to forest fires in the future, according to a study by AISIX, a company that uses artificial intelligence to study climate risks.

The study unveiled this week was carried out using historical, geographical and biological data. The model, analyzed by artificial intelligence, takes into account the effect of climate change on the risk of fire.

The study predicts that the fire season will start earlier in the year due to climate change.

According to the author of the study, researcher Gio Robert, La Mauricie National Park could suffer more fires in the years to come, due, among other things, to the significant human presence in the park.

It is the only Quebec national park to be on the list. All other parks targeted by the study are located in Western Canada. If the West will remain the cradle of the majority of forest fires in the coming years, the researcher predicts that the risk of fire in Quebec could increase more quickly than elsewhere in Canada.
